In the Midst of Chaos

Well, it has been a while since I have typed up a post for this. Anyways, this topic has been on my mind for the last month and a half. I have been going through and dealing with a lot of difficulties lately, all happening pretty much back to back to back literally which has taken a toll on my life mentally. I am in what I call “survival mode” and have been for the last month and a half. I think we have all been in this spot at one point in our lives. When a lot of things happen all at once and you are not sure what to do or where to go and you cannot seem to catch a break. That is literally me right now as I am almost at the finish line of this semester of Bible College that I am currently in. Note: this post has a similar theme to my other post that I posted back in January of this year called “Be Still and Know”. But this one is going to be a little different.

“Be Still and Know” has been a constant theme that God has put on my heart for a long time and it has reoccurred at different times but in different ways. Back in January for example when I first posted about it was when I was beginning my journey of Bible College and I has no idea at all what God was going to do let alone what He was going to show me that semester. I came into that semester very anxious and those who do know that or have read my post on “10 Verse for an Anxious Heart” knows that I deal with anxiety daily. So, coming into something new or doing something new gives me a lot of anxiety because I do not know that outcome is going to be like. Throughout that semester through the themes we had for vespers, for example, surrender, rest, be still and know is how God reminded me about this yet again. He works in mysterious ways that I cannot seem to comprehend at times. But it shows that He is faithful always.

This time around it was kind of different. I am finding myself relying on God more than ever right now due to all things that have come my way within the last month and a half. It was due to all the trials that I have been facing that got me really thinking about this theme “Be Still and Know” again. Like I said before it has a constant theme in my life. However, I had to re-learn how to fully rely upon and put my full trust in God to help get me through this without breaking down. To be real and honest with you all, there definitely were times that I wanted to just give up because everything was happening back to back. The feeling is like when you are on a chain that keeps holding you down not allowing you break free no matter you tried to escape. It not a good feeling at all, but that is when you must trust and be still allowing God to take over.

Throughout the Bible though there are many examples that prove that God is there amidst it all. In the story of Esther, it does not mention God at all but He was there when she had to confront the king at that time to save her people from being killed. In the story of Joshua, He relied on God when He faced Jericho when some of the people doubted what God was doing there; in the end, God was able through Joshua to lead them to the promised land. Mary the mother of Jesus, she even had relied on God throughout the journey she had to face as well. Paul even throughout his letters relied on God when he journeyed around going from different cities telling people about Jesus even though he got persecuted for it.

Also in the Bible, there are a plenty of verses that talk about not only being still and allowing God to take over but to preserve, have faith and trust that something good will happen in the end. Below is a list of verses that have helped me when chaos comes my way.

1) He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”- Psalms 46:10 NIV (this one seems obvious to put here)

2) “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”- James 1:2-4 NIV

3) “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”- Deut. 31:6 NIV

4) “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”- Phil. 4:6-7

5) “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”- Isaiah 40:28-31 (verse 31 especially here)

Bottom line here is, no matter what battle you or what chaos is coming your way, just Be Still and do not give up. If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it one way or another. Keep calm, pray hard, and have faith. You got this! I’m rooting for you.
